MADE IN NELSON, FOR NELSON

We've made leather goods here since 2013. This Christmas, our keychain helps feed our neighbours.

EVERY DOLLAR DOUBLED

Every dollar you pay goes to the Nelson Community Food Centre, and we match it. Each keychain covers about 4 community meals.

LIMITED EDITION

Hashbrown's keychain is made for this fundraiser only, until mid-December.

Hashbrown the cow, wearing her bell collar, with her newborn calf Small Fry

Meet Hashbrown

Hashbrown is a real cow. In 2021 her owner Liz, a longtime Popov customer, emailed us for help with a collar strong enough to carry Hashbrown's antique cow bell.

We traded advice, photos and a lot of cow puns. Liz finished the collar herself, and Hashbrown wore it the day after her calf, Small Fry, was born. That's the two of them in the photo.

A pile of Hashbrown Christmas keychains

From the farm to your keys

Our team loved her so much that she became our Christmas cow, pulling Santa's sleigh on our holiday coasters.

This year she's back on a keychain: thick black leather, a red foil Hashbrown stamp and a solid brass ring. And this time, every keychain helps feed Nelson.

Why we're doing this

We've made leather goods in Nelson since 2013. One in four people in Canada can't afford enough food, and the Nelson Community Food Centre is where many of our neighbours turn: a free, market-style food bank, community meals every Tuesday, and a garden anyone can drop in to.

So this Christmas, our holiday keychain is theirs. Every dollar you pay for it goes to NCFC, and we add the same amount again.

About the Nelson Community Food Centre

Nelson Community Food Centre is one of eighteen Community Food Centres across Canada: dignified spaces where people grow, cook, share and advocate for good food. Every Tuesday, around 120 people sit down to a Community Meal. On the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, the fresh, market-style Good Food Bank serves about 145 households, and no proof of need is asked. Food boxes are delivered to neighbours who can't easily leave home, and there are gardening and cooking classes and advocacy support too.

FUNDRAISER QUESTIONS

Where does the money go?

Every dollar you pay for the keychain goes to the Nelson Community Food Centre, a registered Canadian charity (Charitable Registration Number 828762344 RR0001). Popov Leather adds the same amount again, and we hand NCFC one cheque before Christmas. NCFC puts it where it helps most: the Good Food Bank, Community Meals, the garden or day-to-day operations.

Will I get a tax receipt?

No. You're buying a keychain, so the purchase isn't a charitable donation and doesn't come with a tax receipt. If you'd like a receipt, you can give to NCFC directly on NCFC's donation page; their receipts show the registration number above.

Does tax or shipping count?

No. Sales tax and shipping go to the government and the courier, not the fundraiser. Everything you pay for the keychain itself counts, and we match it.

What if I use a discount code?

Discount codes and our November sale both apply, so you still get our best price. The donation is what you actually paid for the keychain, and we match that amount. For example, pay $6.65 CAD and NCFC gets $13.30 CAD.

Can I buy more than one?

Yes. Every keychain counts, so buying a few as stocking stuffers moves the bar faster, and we match every one.

How does the goal bar work?

Every Hashbrown keychain sold moves the bar up by one. It updates on its own shortly after each order, so you can watch Nelson get closer to the goal.

When does it end?

The campaign runs until mid-December. Then we add up every keychain sold, match the total, and hand NCFC one cheque before Christmas. We'll share the final total right here on this page.

Can I give to NCFC directly?

Yes. You can give any amount on NCFC's donation page, and NCFC sends a tax receipt for direct gifts. Direct gifts don't count toward our keychain goal, but they go to the same good place.

Do you ship outside Canada?

Yes. We ship the keychain everywhere we ship the rest of our shop, and every keychain counts toward the goal wherever it goes.
